BIO

Marcia Kahn is celebrating her 100th year as an “artist and explorer”. She was born in Boston, MA in 1922. After moving with her family to New York City Marcia showed an early interest in art and design. She graduated from Hunter College (B.A. in Design and Education) and went on to work as one of the first mechanical draftswomen in an all-male work environment.

Later, after moving to New Rochelle NY with her husband Elliot, she went to College of New Rochelle to study for her Masters of Art degree. She also worked as a textile, embroidery and interior designer. She has studied painting with Alton Tobey, Charles Kingham and Richard Miller. She also studied sculpture with Carla Rae Johnson and Helen Beling and plastics with George Adamy.

Over the years, Marcia has branched out into working in mixed media art pieces, creating scuptures, “assemblages”, book art and jewelry. She studied jewelry making with Douglas Laughlin, Richard Mocco, Jill Kantor, Jean Reist-Starke and Bob Kuliche. This love of jewelry-making finally turned into a business when, with Joan Weiskopf, Marcia created Craftsman’s Crucible, a jewelry-making school in Larchmont, NY. Here, in addition to teaching classes, she and Joan created a successful line of “dog jewelry” (pendants, necklaces and other fine jewelry with designs for most all pedigree dogs). The jewelry line was a financial success for many years.

Marcia’s artwork and Assemblages have been shown at numerous mineral and gem shows in New York and Massachusetts. She has had shows in San Juan Puerto Rico, Willemstad Curacao, Wildcliff Science Center, Baruch College, the Larchmont Library and Landau Gallery, Belmont Hill School and Beth-El Synagogue, New Rochelle NY
